A handmade sign posted at the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct proclaims the area as the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” in Seattle, Washington. Established on June 8, 2020 after The Seattle Police Department closed the East Precinct, the zone is a self-declared intentional community and commune of around 300 residents, of approximately ten city blocks of the neighborhood. The precinct has been the site of large protests and occasional violent clashes over the last week.
