The cemetery was restored in 1893 by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner integrating the ruins of a 15th century Gothic hermitage along the Camino del Norte. This less-traveled route of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage along the Northern coast of Spain starts in Irún, Basque Country and ends in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia.
