Seattle, Washington: The Solstice Cyclists kickoff the Summer Solstice Parade and Festival. The cyclists wearing little more than body paint have long been a fixture of the celebration. The annual event, now in its 30th year, is produced by the Fremont Arts Council - an organization that supports the arts and artists in and around the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. The celebration includes more than sixty community-based ensembles, giant puppets, stilt walkers, floats, and more. All floats in the parade are human powered with no motorized electric or electric vehicles. Also prohibited are any written words or logos, no live animals and no real weapons. The parade ends with the Solstice Celebration at Gas Works Park at its terminus.
