Teotihuacan was a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city situated some 50 km northeast of modern-day Mexico City. Today, it is known as the site of many of the most architecturally significant Mesoamerican pyramids built in the pre-Columbian Americas. The city was built between the 1st and 7th centuries A.D., with major monuments continuously under construction until about AD 250. Teotihuacan was the largest city in the pre-Columbian Americas at its zenith with a population of approximately125,000.
